 Hymek Dawn, 2002

The final part of this critically acclaimed trilogy featured the Hymek Class 35s and was aptly titled, Hymek Dawn. This book drew on official correspondence between Ted Wilkes and Peter Ashmore of Wilkes and Ashmore, who came up with the look, along with Donald Tustin, for the class. there are some marvellous official photographs of the locomotives in the design stage at Beyer Peacock’s Gorton Works, where they were built. The 101-strong fleet were a success on British Railways and the last remaining members soldiered on until March 1975. All three books tell a fascinating story and provide a real insight into the workings of BR and the Design Panels employed to shape the look of Britain’s modern diesel locomotive fleet. Now long out of print like its two stablemates, the book commands a hefty price on Ebay.
