How the end was reported on TOPS for D1068 Western Reliance which never went back home to Laira Depot after failing at Swindon on October 11, 1976, with the 3C05 13.25 Paddington-Swansea. The loco’s ‘B’ transmission intermediate final drive part seized and collapsed and the name and numberplates were removed at Swindon stabling point. She was withdrawn on the 13th and moved straight to the adjacent Swindon Works. Nigel Painter documented the whole nameplate removal process.
