October 4, 1975, the last day for some Westerns, sees a troubled D1021 on the 1A45 12.20 Penzance-Paddington from Plymouth which had failed at Exeter - D1041 worked forward. D1021 had failed at Totnes and had lost main air pressure with ‘A’ engine stopped – no fault light. D1021 came off at Exeter as staff were unable to rectify either fault. Loco was to be hauled to Laira for repairs. D1027 meanwhile, on the 1§C04 Penzance-Cardiff, was in its final month of traffic.
